Abduslwamad Shariff Nassir, the governor of Mombasa County, has pledged to invest significantly in the education sector in an effort to improve the lives of the city’s inhabitants.
Nassir reaffirmed his dedication to improving the quality of education in Mombasa County as he spoke at the Ronald Ngala Memorial School in Mvita during the distribution of scholarships worth Sh64 million to 9,346 students.
During the current fiscal year, the Governor has stated that the Education sector is one of the largest recipients of the department’s budgetary allocation.
Skills Mtaani, a program that provides partial scholarships for vocational training, has been allotted Sh130 million, the School Holiday Programme, which aims to keep students away from vices during school breaks, has been allotted Sh145 million, the free School Feeding Program has been allotted Sh84 million, and the Elimu Fund for bursaries has been allotted Sh205 million.
“I launched my ambitious school feeding program, Msosi Skuli, five months ago from a solitary kitchen constructed by a strategic partner within the Pwani School for the Disabled.
According to Governor Nassir, the County Government of Mombasa, in collaboration with Food for Education, feeds 8,610 students in 96 ECD centers across all 30 districts of Mombasa every day from this kitchen.
The Governor ordered CECM Dr. Mbwarali Kame of the Department of Education and Digital Transformation to ensure that all 30 wards have Early Childhood Development Centers (ECD), that existing centers are refurbished, and that a constant supply of purified water is provided.
While serving as representative for Mvita, Governor Nassir purified the water in secondary institutions in the constituency. He plans to implement the same strategy in all Primary and ECD schools in the county.
Mishi Mboko, a representative from Likoni, praised the Governor’s transformative leadership since his inauguration.
The County Assembly Speaker Hon. Aharub Khatri, Mvita Member of Parliament Mohamed Machele, Women Representative Zamzam Mohamed, Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko, and CECM Education Dr. Mbwarali Kame were with the governor.
