Gov’t Announces Biometric Registration Date for All Public and Civil Servants

Moses Kuria, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, announced on Wednesday that all government employees will begin biometric registration on a specific date.

In an interview with KTN News, Kuria said that the government would start making registration mandatory beginning in May.

The CS stated that the Ministry of Health will handle the registration as part of the modifications to the new digital health system.

Under the new rules, all Kenyans who want to join the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) must go through biometric registration.

The CS announced their intention to conduct biometric re-registration of all public workers starting next month.

They stated that as part of digital health initiatives, they needed to take everyone’s biometrics so they could access social health, which they considered a positive development.

According to CS Kuria, the government is taking strict measures to eliminate “ghost workers” who do not receive payment.

CS Kuria also said that technology was the only way for the government to know for sure how many “ghost workers” were on the state payroll.

A.C. Kuria said, “We are working on it. I was hoping that more religious people would use the ghost, but since they haven’t, let me use technology.”

CS Kuria first announced the biometric registration of workers in February of this year. However, he didn’t specify when the registration would take place.

The CS made it clear that the registration would include biometric recordings of all employees, with an expected number of more than 900,000.

According to Kuria, the country is full of ghosts, including ghost civil servants, ghost teachers, and ghost students.

Additionally, he noted that cash transfers are being sent to elderly citizens. He added that as efforts to exorcise ghosts are accelerated, the Ministry of Public Service will embark on biometric registration of all the 900,000 individuals who are paid by taxpayers, including those from counties.
