Grade 9 Transition: 11, 000 Classrooms Under Construction
The State Department for Basic Education, led by Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang, has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating the seamless transition of eighth grade pupils to ninth grade in the upcoming year.
During a recent visit to Masikonde Primary School in Narok Central Sub-county, Dr. Kipsang evaluated the progress of classroom construction projects intended for grade nine students.
He confirmed that the nationwide construction of 11,000 classrooms is currently underway, with additional efforts being made to meet the total requirement of 16,000 classrooms.
“As we speak, 11, 000 classrooms are at various levels of completion countrywide. We are working with Members of Parliament and NG-CDF to support us with 5, 000 classrooms,” he said.

As part of the ongoing preparations for the transition to Grade 9, Migosi revealed that 3,500 classrooms are currently under construction. An additional 7,500 classrooms will commence construction within the week.
The government has allocated Ksh3.4 billion to the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) for the construction of 6,000 more classrooms, while the distribution of textbooks for Grade 9 is scheduled to begin next month.

To address the need for additional classrooms, the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) is set to construct 5,000 more classrooms, bringing the total to the required 16,000.
According to Dr. Kipsang, the 11,000 classrooms are currently in various stages of completion across the country.
He emphasized that the Ministry is collaborating closely with Members of Parliament and the NG-CDF to achieve this goal. Additionally, an extra Sh1 billion has been allocated specifically for schools in Nairobi County due to their unique challenges.
Curriculum Development and Learning Materials
Regarding the curriculum, the Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development (KICD) has successfully prepared and finalized the necessary textbooks for grade nine.
Dr. Kipsang stated that schools will begin receiving these books between October and November, ensuring that every ninth-grade student will have access to them in a one-to-one ratio.
Earlier in the day, the CS toured several Primary and Junior Schools across Kajiado, Machakos, and Nairobi Counties to monitor the resumption of school operations for the third term.

Speaking during his visit to Lenana School Primary in Kajiado County, Ogamba completed an assessment tour of several primary schools in Nairobi, Machakos, and Kajiado counties as students reported for the third term.
The reopening of schools coincided with the start of the nationwide strike by Kuppet, following Knut’s decision to call off their strike on Sunday.
