Has Cheptumo Ayabei Replaced TSC CEO Nancy Macharia? Who is Ayabei?

Rumors have circulated suggesting that Cheptumo Ayabei has been appointed as the CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), replacing Nancy Macharia.

However, TSC officials have moved swiftly to denounce these rumors as baseless and unfounded.

The rumors’ began when Nation newspaper published an article with the headline, “Intern teachers win fight for higher pay,” discussing the appropriation of budgetary allocation for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The article referred Cheptumo Ayabei as an acting Chief Executive, raising questions about the current status of Nancy Macharia, the head of the largest employment body.

Who is Cheptumo Ayabei?

Mr. Ayabei joined the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) in 1999 as a Finance Officer and rose through the ranks to become the Director of the Finance Directorate in 2009.

Before his tenure at TSC, he worked in the Ministry of Education as an Assistant Secretary and Senior Assistant Secretary Finance from 1990 to 1999.

Academic and Professional Background

His academic credentials include an MSc in Finance and Banking from the University of Stirling, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Education Arts option from Kenyatta University.

Additionally, he holds a CPA (K) and has certificates in Public Finance and Accounts from the University of Connecticut and Strathclyde University, Scotland, UK.

He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

Vision for TSC’s Finance Directorate

Mr. Ayabei’s vision is to make the Finance Directorate proactive in identifying issues and offering innovative solutions to enable the Commission to accomplish its goal of providing quality services to its clients more effectively.

His extensive background in finance and education positions him well to navigate the challenges and opportunities in his new role as Acting CEO.
