How to Replace Lost KCPE and KCSE Certificates? What About O-Level Certificates?

Your education certificate is quite valuable, serving as a critical stepping stone for further studies and jobs. Universities frequently need it for enrollment, and certain job applications require O-level certificates. Losing such certificates is serious, but the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) offers a solution.

On March 2, 2009, KNEC issued a rule allowing the reinstatement of misplaced certificates from 1981. However, you may only request a replacement once. To begin the procedure, follow these simple steps:

Fill KNEC Certificate Replacement Form:

You can fill out the form online or in person at the KNEC Archives and Records offices.

Include the following documents: a copy of the certificate or result slip, a completion or recommendation letter from a school, a written legal affidavit, a police abstract showing the certificate’s loss, and a valid ID, passport, or birth certificate. Attach your KNEC bank deposit slip.

Pay the Processing Fee:

To pay the processing cost, deposit Ksh. 5,000 + 16% VAT (totaling Ksh. 5,800) into the designated KNEC accounts at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Equity Bank, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, or National Bank of Kenya. Attach the bank slip as proof of payment.

Submit the Application Form:

To apply, fill out the form and send it in a sealed envelope to the Kenya National Examination Council, P.O. Box 73598-00200, City Square, Nairobi. Please validate the accuracy of the details.

Waiting Duration:

After completing the paperwork, please allow 60 working days to acquire new documents from KNEC offices. To check the status of your application, log into the KNEC Query Management Information System (QMIS).

Certificates must be obtained within two years of application; otherwise, they will be disposed of without consultation.

KNEC Stops Replacement of Lost Certificates:

Because of increased demand for replacements, KNEC no longer issues O-level certificates. In April 2017, Mr. Mohamud Ibrahim, the body’s representative, announced this decision, putting many individuals in a difficult situation.

However, KNEC currently offers a confirmation service for Ksh. 2,320, which is exclusive to the New Mitihani House in South C.

Accessing KCSE Certificates Online:

Accessing certificates has become more convenient for individuals awaiting their KCSE results. Take these steps:

  • Open any browser and establish a reliable internet connection.
  • Visit KNEC’s website.
  • Click on the ‘Results’ tab.
  • To view and print the results, type in the index number.
  • You must pick up secondary school certificates in person from Mitihani House; this online service only applies to KCPE certificates.

Losing certificates can be upsetting, jeopardizing students’ futures. The Ministry of Education is aggressively tackling the difficulties related to bogus documentation and implementing measures to retain confidence. For additional information on how to replace missing certificates, call KNEC.
