Kakuyuni Boys School Community Demands Principal’s Immediate Transfer.
The Kakuyuni Boys Secondary School community in Malindi Sub County, Kilifi County, has called for the immediate transfer of its principal, Rev. Alphonse Kaingu, amid allegations of mismanagement and a significant decline in academic performance. Parents, students, and local leaders asserted that the institution had deteriorated under his leadership, with the student population plunging from 800 when he assumed office to the current 285.
During a tense meeting attended by Sub-County Director of Education Rashid Roba Adan, Sub County TSC Director Jane Jinnah, Sub County TSC Human Resource Officer Josephine Bosibori, and Malindi Divisional Assistant County Commissioner Irene Munyoki, parents and local Member of Parliament Amina Mnyazi accused Rev. Kaingu of poor leadership. They demanded swift action to address the grievances raised.
As parents chanted slogans calling for his removal, Samuel Katsole, a concerned parent, argued that student discipline was being poorly handled, with many students frequently sent home over minor infractions. He pointed out that day scholars were particularly disadvantaged by these measures, making it difficult for them to achieve even a mean grade of C (plain). He also noted that boarding students were not being adequately supervised during weekends, further affecting their academic progress.
MP Amina Mnyazi stated that numerous complaints had been made against the principal and urged authorities to investigate his conduct. She revealed that about 60 students had recently visited her office to voice their grievances, followed by parents who expressed similar concerns.
Ms. Mnyazi, who had gone to the school to hand over a Sh2 million donation from President William Ruto, disclosed that she had formally written to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to register a complaint against Rev. Kaingu and request an inquiry into his leadership, potentially leading to his transfer.
Controversy Over Presidential Funds
The MP criticized Rev. Kaingu, alleging that he had delayed distributing the funds promised by the President. She claimed that the principal, along with some members of the school’s board, had intended to redirect the money toward a school project rather than using it for student welfare.
She recalled how she had asked the President to provide lunch for students who had welcomed him in the scorching sun during his visit. The President had pledged Sh2 million, but she accused the principal of unnecessary delays in disbursing the funds.
To rectify the issue, she directed that each student receive Sh7,000, which would be credited to their school fee accounts starting Tuesday, with copies of the receipts sent to her office for verification.
Ms. Mnyazi reiterated her concern over the school’s diminishing academic performance and supported the community’s demand for a leadership change. She recalled that the school had once been among the top-performing institutions in Malindi Constituency but had since experienced a drastic drop in performance. Emphasizing the importance of effective leadership, she stated that if the school community was dissatisfied with the principal, a transfer should be considered.
“From what I’ve gathered, this school was once one of the top-performing institutions in Malindi Constituency. Now, its performance has significantly dropped. If the school community is unhappy with the principal’s leadership, a transfer must be considered,” she added.
Sub-County Director of Education Rashid Roba Adan and Malindi Assistant County Commissioner Irene Munyoki assured the gathering that the concerns raised would be addressed. They emphasized the importance of cooperation among students, parents, and teachers to restore the school’s academic standing.

Principal Defends Himself Amid Mixed Reactions
While the meeting unfolded, Rev. Kaingu remained composed, recording the proceedings with his mobile phone without responding to the accusations. However, students expressed mixed reactions when interviewed by journalists. While some supported the call for his removal, others defended him, citing positive changes he had introduced.
In a subsequent response, the principal defended himself, claiming that he was being targeted for resisting interference from officials linked to the MP’s office. He alleged that these officials had sought to allocate only Sh1.5 million to the school while retaining Sh500,000, a move he had opposed, which had led to calls for his removal.
