Despite initial resistance, the officer confiscated the device and uncovered a WhatsApp copy of CRE Paper 313/1 questions and answers corresponding to the ongoing exam.
The student was subsequently detained at Salawa Police Post for further investigation.
Exam Malpractice in Garissa County
A similar case was reported in Garissa County at Ihya High School, where a female invigilator intercepted malpractice during the Islamic Religious Education Paper 1.
She discovered a candidate with a Samsung phone, which she promptly handed over to Dadaab’s Deputy Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) for further scrutiny.
Biology Exam Breach in Kilifi County
During a biology exam at Gedi Secondary School, officials, acting on a tip-off, confiscated a mobile phone from a candidate. The device is currently under examination to ascertain the extent of the breach.
Possible Leak of CRE Paper in Nandi County
Another significant incident occurred in Nandi County, involving a suspected leak of CRE Paper 1 on social media.
Authorities discovered that a photograph of the examination paper from Kamimei Mixed Secondary School had been circulating online.
A coordinated team, including the Nandi County Commissioner, County Police Commander, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials, and security personnel, quickly investigated.
They verified that the leaked image matched the exam paper being administered, confirming its authenticity.
Four individuals were subsequently arrested in connection with this leak: Hudson Kavulundi (Centre Manager), Supervisor Jacob Kimutai, and invigilators Kingston Kavita and Tom Ominde. They are set to face charges in Kapsabet court as investigations continue.
