KCSE Candidate Dies, Two Girls Give Birth as Exam Begins.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) theory examinations began on Monday morning, marked by three significant incidents in Meru County.
At approximately midnight on November 4, a male candidate from Tigania West passed away just hours before he was set to sit for his exam.
Around the same time, two female candidates, who were expectant leading up to the examination, delivered their babies at a Meru hospital.
A regional administrator acknowledged these developments, stating that the numbers could change as more updates come in.
The same administrator, while distributing the examination materials in Meru County, reported other noteworthy candidate groups.

Plea for Integrity in Examinations
Authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining exam integrity. The regional administrator urged officials—including center managers, supervisors, invigilators, and police officers—to follow established protocols to prevent irregularities.
He stressed that anyone involved in malpractice would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
He emphasized that candidates had prepared diligently and deserved fair outcomes from their years of study.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba reinforced the government’s commitment to preventing malpractice. He instructed supervisors to refrain from aiding in any fraudulent activities, warning that the government would monitor closely and act against violators.
To enhance security, the exam papers were equipped with technology designed to detect tampering and notify the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi instantly.
