KCSE Candidate Sits Exams With Oxygen Cylinder in Tow.

As thousands of students across Kenya sit for their KCSE exams, Terry Charity, a student at King David Junior and Secondary School in Juja, faces an exceptional challenge due to her serious heart condition.

To complete her exams, she relies on an oxygen cylinder and tubes—a lifeline since the national exams commenced last week.

Terry’s parents, Lucy Mumbi and Paul Njiru, start each day early, carefully preparing her for school. Living in Sewage Estate near Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, they hire a taxi daily to take her to school as she is unable to walk.

Terry’s father shared that complications at birth left her unable to walk, necessitating her enrollment in a special school, where she excelled academically and graduated after eighth grade.

Her outstanding performance earned her a spot in a prestigious high school. However, due to her health, she enrolled at King David Junior and Secondary School instead.

Escalating Health Needs and Financial Strain

Last December, Terry’s condition worsened, resulting in a lengthy hospitalization and a new reality: she now requires continuous oxygen therapy. Since March, she has needed daily oxygen support along with other expensive treatments, creating a significant financial burden on her family.

To help alleviate the family’s financial difficulties, Susan Wambui, the coordinator at Kiambu Huduma Centre, has rallied friends and the local community to support Terry’s medical needs.

She urges well-wishers to contribute, hoping to relieve the family’s expenses and allow Terry the opportunity to complete her education.

For those wishing to assist, Terry’s mother, Lucy Mumbi, can be reached at +254727792560.
