Kithure Kindiki: Salary and Benefits of Interior CS if Approved as Deputy President.

Following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, President William Ruto nominated Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President. The National Assembly is set to decide on the nomination.

Currently, Kindiki earns KSh 957,000 per month as Interior CS, inclusive of a basic salary and allowances. If the nomination is approved, Kindiki will become the third Deputy President of Kenya, earning KSh 1.2 million monthly, along with other perks.

Current Salary of Kithure Kindiki as Interior CS

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) reported that Kindiki earns a monthly income of KSh 957,000, which includes both basic salary and allowances.

President Ruto submitted Kindiki’s name to parliament on Friday, October 18, for approval. If the MPs approve this nomination, Kindiki will take on the role of Deputy President.

Kindiki’s Expected Salary as Deputy President

Should Kindiki assume the Deputy President’s position, his salary will rise from KSh 957,000 to KSh 1.2 million per month.

This total will include a basic salary of KSh 736,313, a house allowance of KSh 300,000, and additional allowances such as official transport and salary market adjustment worth KSh 190,875. These elements sum up to KSh 1,227,188 per month.

Benefits for Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President

Once Kindiki assumes the role of Deputy President, SRC has outlined several benefits he will enjoy, including:

  1. Official Transport
    • Kindiki will be provided with official transport as per the government’s transport policy.
  2. Medical Cover
    The Deputy President and his family will receive an annual medical cover that includes:
    • Inpatient: KSh 10 million
    • Outpatient: KSh 300,000
    • Maternity: KSh 150,000
    • Dental: KSh 75,000
    • Optical: KSh 75,000
  3. Retirement Benefits
    According to the Retirement Benefits for Deputy President and Designated State Officers Act, 2015, Kindiki will be entitled to retirement benefits. This includes a service gratuity calculated at 31% of annual pensionable emoluments for the term served. If a pension scheme is established, the SRC will review and set the employer’s contribution rate, including other retirement financial benefits.
