KNEC 2025 Teacher Education Examinations: Registration Process, Requirements, Fees.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the registration process for teacher trainees undertaking the 2025 Teacher Education Examinations and Assessments.
This announcement, detailed in circular KNEC/GEN/EA/EM/TE/REG/2024/01, is addressed to principals of diploma teacher training colleges and sub-county adult and continuing education officers.
Examinations and Assessments Offered
KNEC will be registering candidates for the following examinations and assessments:
- Upgrade Diploma in Primary Education (UDPTE) for repeaters.
- Upgrade Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (UDECTE) for repeaters.
- Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) for Year 2.
- Diploma in Primary Education (DPTE) for Year 2.
- Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) for Year 2.
- Teacher Certificate for Adult Education (TCAE).
- Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE) for repeaters.
- Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE).
- Diploma and Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) for repeaters.
- Primary Teacher Education (PTE) for repeaters.
Registration Process
The registration period is scheduled from 7th November to 30th December 2024 through the CBATE portal.

Key points for registration:
- Candidates who were referred in previous assessments (UDPTE, UDECTE, ECDE, TCAE, DTE, PTE, and DSNE) are eligible to register for the referred subjects.
- KNEC will provide further guidance on registering the 2024 cohort of new DTE (Pre-Primary and Primary) teacher trainees.
Institutional Requirements
Heads of institutions must ensure:
- Trainees are actively enrolled and school-based during registration, except for repeaters in PTE, ECDE, DTE, TCAE, and SNE.
- Coursework for referred papers in PTE, ECDE, DTE, TCAE, and SNE is administered and keyed into the KNEC portal before the written examinations.
- Institutions with fewer than ten trainees must register through approved assessment centers. Centers with fewer than twenty trainees will be hosted in KNEC-approved institutions.
Special Needs Registration
Teacher trainees with special needs are classified into:
- Visually impaired (low vision and blind).
- Hearing impaired.
- Physically challenged.
Institutions must provide:
- Nature and degree of impairment and papers registered.
- Supporting evidence, including medical reports, a detailed EARC report, and colored photographs for physical disabilities.
Payment of Fees
Principals are required to generate invoices after registration. Examination fees are payable to KNEC collection accounts in Co-operative Bank, National Bank of Kenya, Kenya Commercial Bank, and Equity Bank.
Assessment Center Registration
Sub-county directors of education will facilitate new center registration upon request. Institutions must submit:
- Valid registration certificates.
- Letters from the Quality Assurance and Standards Directorate.
- Public health inspection reports.
- A deposit slip of Kes. 15,000 as assessment fees.
KNEC reserves the right to deregister or relocate centers as deemed necessary.

Submission of Documents
Principals must submit the following to New Mitihani House, South C, by 10th January 2025:
- Nominal rolls signed by trainees and principals.
- Medical reports for trainees with disabilities.
- Bank deposit slips and invoices for assessment fees.
