KNEC Releases KPSEA and KILEA Exam Timetables.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has officially released the timetable for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), with the rehearsal scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2024.
This will mark the third time KPSEA is administered under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), but it will be the first time the national assessment is conducted independently, as the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) has been phased out.
KPSEA Assessment Schedule
A total of 1,303,913 Grade 6 candidates are expected to take the national assessment. According to the timetable, the assessment will be conducted over three days, starting on Monday, October 28, 2024. On this day, candidates will sit for Mathematics and English.
The following day, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, they will be assessed in Integrated Science and Kiswahili.
The final day, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, will cover Creative Arts and Social Studies. This assessment will help monitor students’ progress as they transition to Junior School.
Examination Room Instructions
The instructions for the KPSEA assessment closely mirror those used for the KCPE. The Chief Executive Officer of KNEC, Dr. David Njengere, has provided guidelines to supervisors, teachers, and candidates.
For instance, students are required to be seated 15 minutes before the assessment begins, with morning sessions starting at 8:30 a.m.

Candidates who arrive late must provide a valid reason, and only in exceptional circumstances will those arriving more than 30 minutes late be allowed to take the paper.
Additionally, candidates are strictly prohibited from bringing any unauthorized materials, including books, notes, or papers, into the assessment room. Only the correct question papers and materials expressly authorized by KNEC will be permitted.
Special Needs Learners – KILEA
Learners with special needs who are following the Stage-Based Pathway will also be assessed under the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA).
The rehearsal for these students is scheduled for the same day as KPSEA, October 25, 2024, and their assessment will take place over four days.
- Day 1 (October 28, 2024): Communication, Social, and Literacy Skills
- Day 2 (October 29, 2024): Daily Living Skills and Religious Education
- Day 3 (October 30, 2024): Sensory Motor Integration and Creative Activities
- Day 4 (October 31, 2024): Numeracy, Environmental, and Psychomotor Activities
The KILEA assessment papers and activities, according to the KNEC timetable, will take up the entire day for each scheduled subject.
