KNUT Opposes TSC Delocalization, Warns Teachers on Misconduct.
The Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Collins Oyuu, has reiterated the union’s opposition to the delocalization of teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), stating that the policy had been abolished. He emphasized that the union would not tolerate the practice any longer.
According to Oyuu, delocalization brought immense hardship to teachers across the country.
He insisted that teachers should only be transferred by choice and serve in areas where they feel most comfortable. He stressed that an unhappy teacher leads to poor student performance.
Oyuu made these remarks during the 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of KNUT’s Kitui branch, held at the Kitui Multipurpose Development Training Institute.
“Delocalization caused untold suffering to teachers countrywide. Unless it is by their choice, teachers should offer their services where they feel most comfortable. A delocalized teacher is not a happy teacher and that trickles down to poor performance by our students,” he said.

During the meeting, he urged TSC officials to treat teachers fairly, calling for integrity and diligence in their service to educators.
Union’s Stance on Teachers Misconduct
Oyuu also warned male teachers against engaging in inappropriate relationships with students. He stated that KNUT would not protect any teacher found guilty of defiling students and would take strong punitive actions.
He reminded teachers that they are role models and must uphold this responsibility, especially when it comes to safeguarding students’ welfare.
In his address, Oyuu expressed his gratitude to former Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu for her support of teachers and for attending the AGM.
Ngilu underscored the importance of teaching as a critical human resource essential for national development.
She highlighted that teachers’ demands for better pay were justified, considering their significant role in shaping professionals such as engineers, doctors, and lawyers.
Solidarity and Unity Among Teachers
KNUT National Treasurer James Muuo Ndiku applauded teachers for their unity, particularly during the strike at the end of August. He emphasized that solidarity remains a key strength of the teaching profession.
