KUCCPS Issues 7-Day Notice as Course Application Deadline Nears.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a seven-day window for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for tertiary courses. The application portal, launched on Wednesday, April 23, will remain open until April 30, after which it will be closed. This move could potentially lock out students who fail to submit their applications on time.

KUCCPS clarified that the application period applies to those seeking placements in both degree and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. Degree applications are only open to students who sat for their KCSE in 2024, while TVET programmes target candidates who sat for their exams between 2000 and 2024.

Candidates who took their KCSE exams within the same period—2000 to 2024—are also eligible to apply for admission into Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs). While TTC applications are restricted to teacher education programmes in designated colleges, TVET applicants can choose from diploma, certificate, or artisan level courses.

The placement service emphasized that degree programmes are exclusively offered by accredited public and private universities, and only candidates with a mean Grade of C+ or higher qualify for consideration. KUCCPS reiterated the importance of early application, warning against last-minute submissions.

KUCCPS Urges Prompt Applications

In a public notice, KUCCPS reminded candidates that only one week remained to submit their applications. It advised applicants not to delay, stressing that the best time to apply had already passed, and the next best time was now. The message aimed to prompt urgency among candidates who might have otherwise postponed their submissions.

The announcement came just five days after KUCCPS expressed concern over the low number of applications from eligible students. Speaking on Thursday, April 17, KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development, John Oluoch, disclosed that more than half of the students who qualified for university admission had yet to apply.

Oluoch revealed that out of the 246,000 candidates who scored a mean Grade of C+ and above, only 104,000 had successfully submitted their applications. He highlighted that over 100,000 eligible students were yet to act, with less than two weeks remaining before the portal’s closure. He urged students not to wait until the last moment, emphasizing the importance of submitting their applications early to avoid technical difficulties.
