KUCCPS to open Inter-Institution Transfer Portal on June 5

The Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its portal for students who wish to transfer from the institutions the agency has placed them in on June 5.

On Tuesday, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome stated that the agency anticipates a smooth process that will ensure completion of the entire process by July, allowing all students to begin reporting in August.

She emphasized that all students qualified for government sponsorship should apply for higher education loans before they report to the institutions.

A total of 153,000 students who qualified, which is 76 percent, will receive education funding.

Wahome expressed confidence in a smooth process that should see all students settled in their respective schools by August.

She highlighted that the Bachelor of Education attracted the highest number of applicants from the 2023 cohort of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with over 30,000 students applying to pursue education.

In terms of placement, KUCCPS assigned 10,263 students to teacher training institutes, placing 734 students for diploma secondary teacher training and 9,529 for teacher training in primary education.

Additionally, the agency placed 19,653 students at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

Wahome noted that since the inception of the central placement system, male applicants have consistently dominated placements in degree programs.

Female students, in contrast, were the majority of those placed in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions from the 2020–2021 cycle to the present.

The placement policy and processing procedure guide the placement process, with the applicant’s choices, merit, and approved capacities serving as key considerations.

KUCCPS applies affirmative action to gender, persons with disabilities, and marginalized regions. Students can log in to the KUCCPS portal to check their placement results.

A total of 899,453 candidates took the KCSE Examination in 2023.
