The Trans Nzoia branch of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET ) has expressed dissatisfaction with Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu‘s handling of the Education docket, calling for his removal.

The branch secretary, Furaha Lusweti, attributed the current difficulties faced by educational staff to Machogu’s management and urged President William Ruto to consider a ministry reshuffle.

He pointed to issues stemming from the newly implemented Junior Secondary School (JSS) programme. Lusweti explained that the integration of JSS into primary schools has led to a critical shortage of resources.

The primary issues identified by Lusweti include:

  • Inadequate classrooms
  • Lack of laboratories and workshops
  • Insufficient number of teachers

Lusweti highlighted that the placement of JSS in primary schools without adequate facilities has left students in a precarious situation that threatens their future prospects.

He expressed concern that assigning only two JSS interns to teach 12 subjects with limited resources is an overwhelming task, potentially compromising the quality of education for Grade 7 and 8 students.

Lusweti concluded that if these challenges persist, an entire generation of students could be adversely affected.
