KUPPET SG Misori Decries 30-Year Stagnation of Teachers in Job Groups.
The Secretary-General of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Akelo Misori, has voiced great concern over the 30-year stagnation of teachers in the same job groups. Misori considered the situation as “unfortunate” and suggestive of the employer’s irresponsibility.
Misori underlined the misery these teachers go through, pointing out that no other part of public service in Kenya has seen such prolonged stagnation.
He underlined that, as the Constitution states, the employer’s responsibility include advancement, compensation, and discipline in addition to teacher registration and employment. But the impossibility to progress educators over such long times shows a clear resignation of their duties.

Misori noted how persons in many fields, including those who entered the workforce around the same time as the teachers, have progressed in their careers, therefore contrasting the circumstances with other professions.
He spoke about the present Finance Cabinet Secretary, who is under 60 years old but has spent three terms as an MP, has been nominated, and currently holds a high-ranking government post.
This highlights, Misori noted, the particular challenges faced by teachers, who seem to be lagging behind in their professional development.
Misori informed the educators that the union supports them and will not allow victimizing them for voicing issues.
