KUPPET Wants Teachers Medical Cover and KNEC Budget Reinstated
On Wednesday, teachers called upon the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education to immediately reinstate teachers’ medical cover and the Kenya National Examinations Council’s (KNEC) budget.
Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Union Deputy Chair Moses Nthurima expressed deep concern over the current state of affairs.
Moses Nthurima highlighted that teachers are currently unable to access medical services after being turned away from private health facilities due to unpaid dues.
The union has been receiving numerous complaints from its members nationwide over the past month regarding difficulties in accessing medical services.
This issue is critically impacting teachers’ well-being and their ability to perform their duties effectively.
Examination Council Budget Cut
In addition to the medical cover crisis, the union raised alarm over the drastic reduction of KNEC’s budget.
The budget for teachers involved in administering and marking examinations has been slashed to zero, leaving the council with no funds just three months before the national exams.
The union emphasized the urgency of reinstating the budget to ensure the smooth administration of the upcoming examinations.
