Ministry of Education Asked to Disburse School Capitation Funds on Time.

Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has urged the National Treasury, through the Ministry of Education (MoE), to establish effective measures for the timely release of capitation funds to schools nationwide.

Her appeal highlights the difficulties school principals face when funds are delayed, noting the negative impact this has on both educators and learners.

“This would provide Principals with ample time to address the requirements of their students effectively.”

Speaking on January 1 at the Youth Empowerment Centre in Mudiri Estate, Muhanda announced her donation of KSh8 million to support the “Teen Mothers of Hope” programme.

The initiative provides scholarships to teen mothers committed to continuing their education and extends support to boda boda businesses.

She emphasized the importance of early funding, suggesting it would be helpful for the MoE to ensure funds are disbursed before students return to school.

Such measures, she noted, would allow principals ample time to address their students’ needs effectively.

Focus on Post-Secondary Education

The legislator also revealed plans to deploy field officers from her office to identify students who sat for the KCSE but are yet to enroll in colleges.

This effort seeks to encourage and assist these students in joining technical colleges, equipping them with skills crucial for navigating the evolving job market.

By advocating for prompt funding and promoting post-secondary opportunities, Muhanda is making substantial efforts to improve educational outcomes and empower young people in Kakamega County.
