Ministry of Education Makes Performing Arts Compulsory Subject in CBC syllabus

Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary, has announced that performing arts will henceforth be mandatory in the Competency-Based Curriculum.

Speaking at Kangaru Girls High School in Embu County as he presided over the Kenya National Drama and Music Festivals, Mr Machogu emphasized that the performing arts have been included in the CBC and would be taught from pre-primary to tertiary levels.

Furthermore, he stated that all schools will be expected to participate in the performing arts competition.

He remarked that Kenyan children are extremely brilliant in drama and music, and they should be allowed to develop their abilities.

Machogu stated that the government is investing heavily in performing art to tap into the great potential within the country. He noted that there is significant talent among young people, some of whom could even compete internationally.

He remarked that the children’s performances were improving and that they should be encouraged.

The CS stated that the government was determined to see the CBC flourish for the sake of the children and the country’s progress.

He stated that the government would hire 20,000 more teachers to manage CBC and provide additional classrooms in primary schools to accommodate junior secondary school students.

He stated that Sh9 billion will be allocated this year for infrastructural development to provide space for students.

He stated that this money will be incorporated into the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

“NG-CDF will be increased so that the parliamentarians can use the funds to construct classrooms enough for the CBC learners,” the minister added.

He maintained that the government can ensure that CBC is properly implemented and without issues.

The nationwide event drew 23,0000 educational institutions from throughout the country.

On Tuesday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will preside over the occasion, while on April 18, President William Ruto will attend.

The CS was thrilled to watch students from many schools perform on stage.

He and other visitors awarded the Friends Kamusinga High School students a standing ovation for their excellent performance in the production.

The youngsters bemoaned that they were swamped with extra homework, leaving them with no time to rest, play, or visit their grandparents during the holidays.
