Ministry of Education Sets Plans for Grade 10 Pathway Placement in 2026.
The Ministry of Education is establishing comprehensive guidelines to ensure smooth placement of Grade 10 students into their preferred pathways when they transition to senior schools in 2026.
Basic Education PS Dr. Belio Kipsang explained that students currently in Grade 8 at junior schools will choose their specialization areas in Grade 9.
They will select from three pathways: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Arts, or Sports Discipline courses.
He revealed that starting next year, the ministry will conduct simulations to test and refine the placement system before it is implemented in 2026.

“The ministry will from next year run several simulations before the new placement method is adopted in 2026,” he stated.
Speaking in Dagoretti South Sub-County after opening the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) container for distribution to schools, Dr. Kipsang emphasized that all senior schools would offer STEM courses.
He also acknowledged the multi-agency team managing the ongoing KCSE examination, noting that their efforts had contributed significantly to the successful administration of this year’s exams, which have been ongoing for four weeks.
He remarked that the exercise had been well-executed, and the country was satisfied with the team’s performance.

Dr. Kipsang pointed out that examination malpractices this year were fewer compared to previous years. He announced that marking of the KCSE papers would begin after the last paper is completed on Friday, November 22, 2024.
He urged the examination markers to handle the marking process efficiently to ensure its success.
