Nakuru County Launches Training of Trainers (TOT) program for ECDE Officers and Supervisors.
The County Government of Nakuru, through its Department of Education, is collaborating with EIDU to launch a Training of Trainers (TOT) program aimed at Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Programme Officers and Supervisors.
This initiative is centered around the EIDU Tayari program, designed to improve pre-primary education within the county. Trained TOTs will subsequently pass on this knowledge to ECDE teachers across Nakuru County.
The primary goal of this training is to empower teachers with the skills needed to implement the Tayari Methodology for delivering the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and to integrate the EIDU application into Tayari lessons.
By strengthening teachers’ capacity in these areas, the program aims to enhance the quality of early education for Nakuru County’s young learners.
Focus Areas in Learning
The Tayari program emphasizes improving literacy and numeracy among young students, preparing them for primary school both cognitively and emotionally.
Currently, the TOTs are focusing on mathematics training, building upon language skills training completed last term. Program officers observed notable improvements in ECDE learners’ language abilities by the term’s end, underscoring the program’s effectiveness.

EIDU has developed a learning platform that provides accessible, high-quality educational content and training to low- and middle-income regions.
The platform offers detailed lesson plans, interactive digital content, and personalized learning assessments. EIDU’s mission is to support education systems worldwide, ensuring inclusive and equitable education as outlined in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4.
Millicent Yugi, Nakuru’s County Director for Early Childhood Development Education, expressed her gratitude to EIDU for its contributions to the Tayari program and for supporting digital learning.
She highlighted that Tayari has been structured as a comprehensive program within pre-primary schools, blending digital, personalized learning activities tailored to pre-primary students.
Origins and Mission of EIDU
Founded in 2015 by Bernd Roggendorf, EIDU seeks to address global educational disparities by providing an open-source digital platform for personalized learning in low-income countries.
Roggendorf has described EIDU’s goal as enabling the world to address the global learning crisis through technology, an endeavor he believes can significantly equalize access to quality education.
EIDU begins by training teacher supervisors, who then train school teachers. Supervisors, with ongoing support from EIDU staff and the platform, continue to coach teachers directly in their classrooms.

Additionally, EIDU has supplied smartphones to teachers and students, giving teachers access to daily lesson plans and students to interactive exercises.
This structured support model is anticipated to provide sustained improvements in teaching quality, furthering the program’s goal of raising educational standards for Nakuru’s early learners.
