Narok County Scholarships and Bursary: 1,600 Full Scholarships and Sh. 400 Million Bursary to 47,308 Needy Students.
The Narok County Government has unveiled its 2024/2025 bursary programme worth Sh. 400 million, aimed at supporting 47,308 needy and vulnerable children across the county’s six constituencies.
Among the beneficiaries are 1,600 students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions who are receiving full scholarships.
Governor Patrick Ntutu, while launching the program at the Narok County Government headquarters, described it as a transformative initiative that reduces the burden of school fees for many households.
He highlighted its significance as one of the county’s flagship projects that continues to improve access to education.
Governor Ntutu recounted that during his first year in office, Sh. 372 million was distributed, benefitting 37,423 students. This increased to Sh. 400 million in the second year, reaching 47,308 students.
“Education is not a privilege but a right to all children. No child should be denied education due to financial constraints,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of efficiency and transparency in disbursement, noting that the county has adopted a digital system to identify beneficiaries and prevent double allocation.

Additionally, the bursaries are now issued through banker’s cheques to eliminate corruption loopholes. After evaluating the previous disbursement process, the county government implemented the new approach to enhance accountability and ensure funds reach the intended recipients.
Commitment to Education Access
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to integrity and equitable access to education, stating that financial constraints should not deny any child their right to education. The bursary program aims to reduce school dropouts, promote equity in learning, and inspire students to pursue their dreams with confidence.
Students were encouraged to focus on their studies, with Governor Ntutu reminding them that the bursaries are investments in their aspirations and must be utilized wisely. He underscored the broader impact of the program, which fosters hope, nurtures talent, and contributes to building a promising future for the community.
The event was attended by Narok South MP Kitilai Ole Ntutu, Emurua Dikir MP Johanah Ng’eno, and Narok County Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei. Ng’eno emphasized that the bursaries unlock opportunities for needy children, enabling them to attend school without disruptions.
He acknowledged that many beneficiaries from his jurisdiction, previously at risk of dropping out, are now thriving in society.

Ms. Tonkei called on parents and guardians to mentor their children and encourage them to remain focused on their studies. She affirmed that education is the ultimate equalizer, giving all children, regardless of their backgrounds, the chance to achieve professional success.
Selection Process and Accountability
The bursary recipients were carefully selected from every village with assistance from sub-county and ward administrators. Leaders warned against double allocations, stressing that beneficiaries of the county government’s bursary should not receive additional support from Members of Parliament or other charitable organizations.
By fostering fairness and transparency, the Narok County Government continues to uplift the community and empower students to reach their full potential.
