Nyeri County Disburses Sh4.1 Million in Term Two Bursary Cheques.
The Nyeri County Government has distributed bursary cheques valued at Sh4.1 million to 215 secondary school students from underprivileged backgrounds under the Governor’s Scholarship Program. This initiative, managed by the county administration, selects 60 secondary school students each year, offering them full four-year scholarships covering school fees and upkeep.
The disbursed funds are intended to support the students when schools reopen for Term Two on Monday. The scholarship program, established in 2018, aims to build a strong pool of skilled individuals who can drive and uplift the county’s economic growth, according to Governor Dr. Mutahi Kahiga. Each year, the governor allocates Sh7 million to sustain the initiative.
Speaking at the disbursement event, Nyeri Deputy Governor Warui Kinaniri emphasized the county’s unwavering dedication to promoting education and empowering the youth. He urged the beneficiaries to recognize the opportunity provided and strive for academic excellence. Kinaniri encouraged them by stating, “The county government remains committed to supporting you to attain the highest level of education. I therefore urge you to set goals and work towards achieving your dreams.”
He further reminded the students that resilience and focus were essential despite financial hardships, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their educational pursuits.

Among those present was Victor Wachira, a Kagumo Boys High School alumnus, who scored an outstanding Grade A with 83 points in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. Wachira expressed heartfelt gratitude to the county government, acknowledging the critical role the scholarship had played in his success.
Addressing the current beneficiaries, Wachira advised, “On behalf of Cohort 3, I would like to extend our gratitude to the governor for making a huge difference in our lives by giving us a chance to complete our education.” He encouraged them to focus on personal strengths and weaknesses rather than comparing themselves to peers, remarking, “Don’t imitate your friends, because imitation is a limitation. Be yourself.”
