Open University of Kenya (OUK): Qualifications, Courses, and Fee
OUK is Kenya’s only university that provides 100% virtual and flexible distance education. OUK recognises KCSE, international qualifications, professional experience, and prior education as entry requirements. The Open University of Kenya (OUK) website provides detailed minimum entrance requirements.
The university’s goal is to remove existing barriers and provide more Kenyans with quick and flexible access to post-secondary education.
When researching available programmes, it is critical to examine elements such as the institution, programmeme code, programmeme name, year-one fees, and past cut-off points. The following is a breakdown of some offered programmes for the academic year.
Qualifications to enrol at the Open University of Kenya.
Job expertise, short courses, or recognition of prior education is considered when determining whether to admit students to degree programmes, according to the university’s admission guidelines.
The flexibility of learning, allows students to learn at their own time, pace, and location, which benefits Kenyans who missed early opportunities or faced impediments to university education such as official grades, age, capacity to pay, gender, or geographical location.
Admission to undergraduate courses requires a portfolio to recognise prior learning as well as verification of a KCSE certificate or equivalent.
OUK offers five courses
Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Technology Education, Bachelor of Business & Entrepreneurship.
The two most prestigious postgraduate programmes are the Postgraduate Diploma in Learning Design and Technology and the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Accountability.
The number of course units for the degree and postgraduate diploma programmes varies each academic year, from 12 to 14. Postgraduate programmes last one year, and bachelor’s degree programmes last four years.
However, for open and self-paced study, a student may choose the alternative flexible mode and intend to take longer periods, completing a course unit at a time.
