P1 Teachers Protest TSC Neglect, Demand Employment Opportunities.
P1 teachers in Kenya have voiced their growing discontent with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), accusing it of neglect and unfair treatment.
In a detailed statement, the educators highlighted several grievances, including exclusion from recent recruitment exercises, lack of transparency in hiring processes, and significant disparities in job placements.
The teachers lamented being left out of opportunities despite their qualifications and long-standing commitment to the profession.
They pointed out that in the recent advertisement of 20,000 teaching positions, all slots were allocated to junior secondary school teachers, leaving P1 teachers with no prospects. Many feel this exclusion is a deliberate oversight by TSC.
Transparency in the recruitment process was another major concern raised. According to the teachers, some sub-county directors have failed to make merit lists public, raising doubts about the fairness and integrity of the hiring process.
This lack of accountability has left many teachers questioning the credibility of TSC’s operations.

Frustrated by years of waiting, some P1 teachers shared their personal struggles, including economic hardships and the emotional toll of unemployment.
One teacher pointed out that after graduating at the age of 23, many have waited for over two decades to secure a job, with some nearing retirement age without having worked a day in the profession.
In a passionate plea, they announced an ultimatum, promising peaceful nationwide demonstrations if their grievances are not addressed within 14 days.
They emphasized the urgency of securing employment, citing instances of depression and even suicide among their peers due to prolonged joblessness.
