Prestigious GEMS Cambridge International School in Nairobi Set for Auction.
As Kenya faces ongoing economic challenges, the prestigious International School, Gems Cambridge, located in Karen, Nairobi, was placed on auction following a court directive.
The High Court ordered the auction of the land, covering 15.5 acres in Nairobi, along with all infrastructure on the property.
The school, situated along Magadi Road and adjacent to the Nairobi National Park, is set to be sold in a public auction on Wednesday, October 16, along Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi.
According to the auction notice, the parcel of land identified as LR NO.9118/T1, now Nrb Block 192/807, measures 6.278 hectares or 15.513 acres and is registered under Goodison Sixty-One School Limited, based in Mombasa.

The auction also noted that the property, previously operating as Gems Cambridge International School, is located near other international schools like Brookhurst International School and Banda School.
Facilities on the Property
Potential buyers are informed that the property is equipped with modern amenities, including:
- Swimming pools
- Gaming tracks
- An auditorium
- Facilities for differently-abled children
- Executive meeting lobbies for parents
The school also features various recreational and learning facilities that could appeal to investors looking to maintain the space as an educational institution.
Infrastructure Overview
The auction notice listed the infrastructure on the property, including:
- Main School Block
- Gym
- Auditorium
- Student Hostel Block
- Swimming pools with pool stand
- Football pitch and athletics track
- Basketball and tennis courts
- Gatehouses and other auxiliary buildings
The main school block is a three-story L-shaped building, featuring an entrance lobby, director’s and principal’s offices, vice principal’s office, conference room, and staff offices.
The ground floor also includes reception areas, interview rooms, a cafeteria, dining areas, and washrooms, including those for the differently abled.
Impact on Learning
The auction could disrupt ongoing learning activities at the institution, which is known for its welcoming and supportive learning environment.
The school had previously announced plans to close in 2020 and transfer its students to nearby institutions. This followed the school’s establishment in Kenya in 2014.

Gems International School is owned by a Dubai-based investor and had been operating the facility on a rental agreement.
The property’s private developer reportedly invested Ksh 3 billion to build the school, further indicating its high value to potential buyers.
