Teachers Risk Losing Medical Cover Amid Funding Shortage
Teachers will be without a medical cover from December if the proposed budget cuts stand. This is according to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia.
The current three-year medical contract for teachers is in its second year, with the third year scheduled to begin on December 1 this year, costing Sh20.6 billion.
Macharia stated that the current allocation is insufficient for the commission to meet its financial obligations for the third year of the contract.

“The current allocation is inadequate to enable the commission to meet its financial commitment for year three of the contract,” Macharia submitted.
She added that, due to the lack of provision, there would be no group life, group personal accident, or Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA) covers for teachers.
