TSC and Minet Medical Scheme For Teachers: Benefits and Cost
TSC (Teachers Service Commission) and Minet have taken a proactive step to prioritise the health and well-being of teachers and their families through the introduction of the Afya Kwa Walimu Medical Scheme.
This scheme aims to provide comprehensive medical coverage to teachers across different job groups, ensuring they have access to essential healthcare services.
Benefits Structure:
The benefits structure of the Afya Kwa Walimu Medical Scheme varies according to job groups and includes coverage for outpatient and inpatient services, dental care, optical care, maternity services, group life insurance, last expense coverage, ambulances, international services, and referrals. Below is a summary of the benefits provided for each job group:
Inpatient Benefit:
This component of the scheme covers treatments that require hospital admission or daycare surgery or procedures.
It includes bed entitlement, doctor’s fees, ICU/HDU/critical care and theatre charges, drugs/medicines, dressings, internal surgical appliances, pathology/laboratory tests, imaging services like X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, CT scans, and MRI scans, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, in-patient physiotherapy & hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, accommodation for accompanying parents/guardians of hospitalized children below seven years, medical emergency road evacuation services leading to admission, treatment for congenital defects/genetic disorders, post-hospitalization benefits, day care surgery, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), renal dialysis, cancer treatment, medical education, and chronic disease management.
Maternity Benefit:
This covers routine antenatal check-ups, delivery/doctors fees, postnatal care up to six weeks post-delivery, routine immunisations, emergency caesarean sections, pre-maturity/pre-term cases, and congenital conditions. It is available to principal members.
Dental Benefit:
This includes dental consultation, anaesthetist’s fees, dental X-rays, root canal treatment, tooth extraction, deformation surgery, scaling necessitated by a medical condition, and dentures necessitated by an accident or injury.
Optical Benefit:
Covers expenses related to eye care, including frames, lenses, prescriptions, and other treatments.
