Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Announces 20,000 Internship Positions for Junior Secondary School (JSS) Teachers. Eligibility and How to Apply
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 20,000 internship vacancies for Junior Secondary School teachers across Kenya, supporting the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Applications are open to eligible candidates until November 4, 2024, at midnight. All applications should be submitted online via the TSC portal at www.tsc.go.ke or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke under the “Careers” section.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet these minimum requirements:
- Nationality: Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Education: A diploma or higher in education with a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ and C+ in two teaching subjects or their equivalent.
- Registration: Must be registered with the TSC.
Special consideration is encouraged for teachers with Technical Learning qualifications and TSC registration numbers.

Application and Recruitment Guidelines
The following guidelines apply:
- Manual applications will not be accepted.
- Candidates must be unemployed with no disciplinary exit record from TSC.
- Original academic and professional certificates are required for verification.
- Successful applicants must obtain Personal Accident Insurance covering internship-related risks.
- Internship selection will be based on merit and the number of available vacancies per county, with candidates deployed either within their interview county or where vacancies exist nationwide.
- Candidates will be assigned to teach across various Junior Secondary learning areas.
Required Documents for Verification
Successful candidates should present the following:
- TSC registration certificate (or portal print-out),
- National ID or Passport,
- NCPWD card (for persons with disabilities),
- KRA PIN certificate,
- Two passport-size photos.
Internship Details
The 12-month Teacher Internship Programme aims to prepare new teachers for entry into the profession through mentorship, coaching, and practical teaching experience. Interns will receive a Ksh 20,000 monthly stipend, subject to statutory deductions. Upon successful completion, interns will be awarded a certificate.
