Thirteen Teachers Arrested Over KCSE Exam Malpractice at Nyamninia Secondary School in Yala.
Thirteen teachers, including nine invigilators, are in police custody after a cheating scandal was uncovered at Nyamninia Secondary School in Gem Yala sub-county.
Police detained the teachers following the discovery of photocopied answers for the Mathematics Paper 2 exam, part of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Those arrested include the school’s exam supervisor, a Board of Management (BOM) teacher from St. Mary’s School Yala, and both the centre manager and deputy manager of Nyamninia Secondary School.
KNEC Officials Uncover Cheating Attempt
Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) officials, who were overseeing the exams, noticed unusual behavior among the candidates when they visited the school around 10:15 a.m. during the Mathematics Paper 2 session.

After a search, they reportedly found photocopied exam answers on both a candidate and the examination supervisor, identified as Mr. Isaac Wesonga.
According to the police report, several students appeared to be hiding copies or attempting to destroy the evidence, suggesting a coordinated cheating effort.
The multi-agency team involved in the incident, led by Deputy County Commissioner Evans Otieno and the sub-county director of education, responded promptly to secure the scene and apprehend the suspects.

One invigilator reportedly managed to escape. The remaining suspects are currently being held at Yala Police Station and are expected to appear in court the following day to face charges related to the alleged examination malpractice.
