TSC P9 Form from T-Pay Portal: How to Download Tax Deduction Card

The P9 form, also known as the Tax Deduction Card, holds significant importance in the process of filing individual income tax returns online.

Income tax, a direct tax, is levied on various sources such as business profits, employment earnings, rent, dividends, interests, and pensions. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) determines the tax rates based on individual tax bands.

Employers, like the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for teachers, generate the P9 form. Every month, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) deducts a portion of the teacher’s earnings as income tax, also known as Pay As You Earn (PAYE), which appears as PAYE Auto on the teacher’s payslip.

Fortunately, TSC handles this deduction and submits it directly to the KRA, sparing teachers from the monthly burden of doing it themselves.

It’s worth noting that every employee is entitled to a monthly tax relief of Ksh. 16,896 per annum (Kshs. 1,408 per month), with individuals with disabilities granted an exemption on the first Ksh. 150,000 of their monthly income.

To obtain the P9 form, follow these simplified steps after registering for the Payslips online service:

  1. Visit the T-Pay online platform at https://tpay.tsc.go.ke/ using your phone or computer.
  2. Log in with your TSC number and password.
  3. Upon successful login, navigate to the P9(s) section to view and print your P9 form by clicking on the ‘Print’ tab.

The P9 form contains the following sections:

  1. Tax date: Indicates the first month of the monthly taxable income for the entire financial year.
  2. Taxable Pay: This represents the monthly taxable pay, which includes gross income (basic salary plus allowances).
  3. Pension: This reflects the monthly pay for retirees.
  4. Pay Auto: Shows the total monthly deductible individual income tax.
  5. Unused MPR: Denotes any unutilized monthly personal relief.
  6. MPR Value: Indicates the monthly personal relief entitled to all residents.
  7. Vote: Indicates the heading under which the employer places or deducts income tax.
