TSC Announces Major Policy Shift in Teacher Recruitment and Deployment in Kenya.

Teachers across Kenya are set to experience a major transformation in recruitment and deployment, and promotion processes as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) embarks on reforms intended to promote stability, fairness, and motivation in the profession.

During the second day of the annual general meeting of the Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) for the region, held at Migori Stadium, the Nyanza regional director of the TSC, Japhet Kariuki, shared details of the new policy measures being introduced to enhance both the quality of education and the well-being of teachers.

Local-Based Recruitment Strategy

Kariuki revealed that one of the core aspects of these reforms is the alignment of teacher recruitment with their home localities. He explained that the TSC plans to prioritize hiring teachers within their birth counties or regions. This approach is designed to minimize the increasing volume of transfer requests that typically follow appointments, thereby improving school stability.

“We are changing our recruitment policy where teachers will be recruited in their local areas to reduce the frequent transfer requests we receive. This will enhance school stability and ensure continuity in learning,” Kariuki said.

He further emphasized that by focusing on local recruitment, the Commission aims to reduce frequent transfer demands, which will in turn contribute to a more stable school environment and maintain continuity in the learning process.
