TSC Calls for Educator Feedback on Teacher-Student Ratios.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is currently formulating updated staffing norms aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), covering both comprehensive and senior secondary schools. The objective is to enhance effective curriculum delivery across institutions.

Nyanza TSC regional director, Japhet Kariuki, emphasized the importance of feedback from school administrators and educators regarding the appropriate number of learning areas each teacher should manage. He noted that this information would help determine accurate teacher deployment ratios within the CBC framework.

He stated that the Commission was seeking teachers’ perspectives to guide decisions on teacher requirements per class and stressed that their input on the manageable number of learning areas per teacher was essential.

“We’re asking for your feedback as we determine the number of teachers needed per class under CBC. Your insights on the number of learning areas per teacher are crucial,” he said.

During the second day of the Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) regional annual general meeting held at Migori Stadium, Kariuki shared these updates as part of broader reforms the Commission is implementing. The reforms aim to uplift both the quality of education and the overall welfare of teachers.

He called on school heads to support the Commission’s initiatives, reassuring them of the TSC’s dedication to continuous teacher development and reforms that prioritize educators’ welfare.
