TSC Corrects Pay Mix-Up for Teachers Upgraded from C4 to C5
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), led by CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, has addressed a recent error in the salaries of teachers promoted from Grade C4 to C5.
The error, which involved a mix-up in the salary increments during recent promotions, has now been rectified.
The TSC identified that some teachers promoted from Grade C4 to C5 were disadvantaged due to a miscalculation.
The error occurred when the salary increment for teachers in Grade C4 was inadvertently higher than the entry point for Grade C5. Specifically, the C4 salary point was Ksh64,527, while the C5 entry point was Ksh62,272.
An internal memo dated August 23, 2024, acknowledged the issue and outlined the steps for correction. The TSC has clarified that the correct entry point for Grade C5 should be Ksh64,770.

The 36,504 teachers who recently received promotions will benefit from this adjustment, which will take effect next month.
The commission has instructed all unit heads in the human resource management and development directorate to implement these corrections. They are required to provide a report on the exercise by September 20, 2024.
To address the discrepancy, the commission has authorized an amendment to the salary entry points for the affected teachers to Ksh64,770 per month.
Additionally, teachers will adopt incremental months in accordance with the existing policy, which is based on the month of promotion.
