TSC Teachers Promotion to Prioritize Job Group C4 and C5 — KUPPET
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have reached an agreement to promote nearly 30,000 teachers who have been in the same job for more than seven years.
KUPPET expressed concern over the non-promotion of over 50,000 teachers across the board who have been stagnant for a long time.
During a meeting with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), in Naivasha on Thursday, the union petitioned the government to grant Sh1 billion to TSC for the immediate promotion of 30,000 teachers, who are among the 50,000 who have been stagnant for a long time.
Maurice Akelo Misori, the Secretary-General (SG) of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), has stated that the priority group will be current C4 and C5 teachers, who will transfer to C5 and D1, respectively, to make room for long-serving teachers currently locked in Grade C3.
Some 7,400 C4 teachers were also excluded from the 2023–2024 promotions, purportedly because they had been in the current grade for fewer than three years.
However, KUPPET’s lobbying only opened the grade to them two years ago, after they had stagnated in C3 and the former Job Group L for many years, and they, too, deserve a promotion.
