TSC Promotes 71,000 teachers in Five Years
In a notable effort to enhance the education sector in the country, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has promoted approximately 71,000 teachers over the past five years.
TSC chief executive Dr. Nancy Macharia highlighted this achievement during her address at the 47th Annual Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) meeting in Mombasa.
Dr. Macharia stated that during the current financial year alone, they had promoted 36,504 teachers, increasing the total to 71,212 in five years.
“During the current financial year, in total we promoted 36,504 teachers, bringing the total number to 71,212 over the last five years,” said Dr Macharia.
Among the promotions, 545 deputy principals were elevated to headship roles across various schools nationwide.
Dr. Macharia emphasized the commission’s commitment to continuing this progress in the upcoming financial year.

She announced that the TSC is focused on addressing the backlog of promotions in the financial year 2024/2025 and expressed gratitude to the government for allocating Sh1 billion for this purpose.
“We are committed to addressing the backlog of promotions in the financial year 2024/2025 and we are grateful to the government for allocating us Sh1 billion for this purpose,” she said.
