TSC Sick Leave Protocol for Teachers: Entitlements and Guidelines
Teachers who are unable to fulfill their teaching duties due to illness can now apply for sick leave through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) online portal.
This initiative aims to provide a streamlined process for teachers to seek leave and avoid any disciplinary actions from the commission. Here are the important details to consider about TSC sick leave:
For Teachers:
- Timing: Apply for sick leave within 48 hours after outpatient treatment and within seven days if hospitalized.
- Application Submission: Apply online through the Head of Institution. If unable to apply personally due to severe sickness, the Head of Institution must inform the Sub County Director within 14 days.

For Head of Institution:
- Timing: Apply within 48 hours after outpatient treatment and within seven days if hospitalized.
- Application Submission: Apply through the Sub County Director. If unable to apply personally due to severe sickness, the Sub County Director must inform the County Director within 14 days.
Entitlements under Sick Leave:
- Teachers are entitled to up to 6 months of sick leave, with full pay for the first 3 months and half pay for the next 3 months.
- Beyond 6 months, the leave is without pay until resuming duties. For sick leave exceeding one year, a Medical Board assessment is required for fitness to continue teaching.

Sick Leave for Intern Teachers/Staff:
- Interns on contracts not exceeding 1 year are entitled to sick leave as follows:
- One month with full pay and an additional month on half pay.
- If sick beyond two months, no pay until resuming duty.
