TSC to Continue Retooling Teachers for Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)
The Teachers Service Commission will provide ongoing retooling (retraining) for teachers to ensure conformity with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Alex Cheruiyot, TSC Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, noted that teachers must be prepared to deal with shifting trends and class management as the education system transitions completely to a competency-based curriculum.
Mr. Cheruiyot stated that the new curriculum necessitates inventive human capability, and that revitalizing the teaching profession will ensure quality, equity, and relevance across all levels of education.
Retooling is a process in education that aims to improve student learning by developing teachers’ professional knowledge and skills.
During a pre-session for junior secondary school (JSS) teachers at a Nakuru hotel, Mr. Cheruiyot stated that TSC and its partners are committed to supporting teachers in ICT integration so that they can effectively source and develop teaching aids and learning materials for the CBC curriculum through continuous training programs.
The Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) is enrolling a total of 9,595 teachers in a training course on the expectations of continuing school curriculum reforms, with a strong emphasis on preparing learners to work in the twenty-first century.

Mr. Cheruiyot stated that the training would enhance human capital. He stated that the shift in the education system to remote learning through digital apps is among the retooling aspects.
The technology will enhance teaching and learning with their students, as well as provide features to enhance teacher-learner engagement.
