KNEC Competency-Based Assessment Teachers Training
Competency-based assessment training for teachers and teacher educators is explained in this article.
The Kenya National Examinations Council sets and maintains examination and evaluation standards for all educational levels. It aims to improve teachers’ and teacher educators’ assessment skills to maintain standards and evaluate learner competencies.
The Council welcomes qualified teachers and teacher educators to apply for training in creating high-quality test items to provide competency-based assessment at the basic education and teacher training levels. Contractual professionals may be hired by KNEC as needed.
Qualifications:
Honesty and professionalism required. They should specialise in their specialties.
The eligibility requirements are:
- Teaching experience of three years.
- Teachers’ Service Commission registration.
- A recommendation from their institution’s head.
Applicants must have suitable academic and professional certifications and a good understanding of their specialty subject and learning area curriculum designs.
Grades and levels available for application:
Grades 4–6 Primary School
DECTE and DPTE Grades 7–8 Teacher Training Colleges Stage-Based Pathway Intermediate and Prevocational Levels

1: Age-Based Pathway Primary School Learning Areas

2. Junior School Learning Areas.
English, Kiswahili, Kenyan sign language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Health Education, Pre-Technical and Pre-Career, Social Studies, CRE, IRE, HRE, Business Studies, Agriculture, PE, Sports, and Indigenous Languages. Home Science, Computer Science, Visual and Performing Arts.
C) Stage-Based Special Needs Education Assessments
D) Teacher training colleges for Grades 7 and 8 Junior School (DPTE and DECTE) and Stage-Based Pathway intermediate and prevocational levels.
English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Environmental Education, and Kenyan Sign Language will be taught. PE, nutrition, health, and agriculture.
Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Educational Resources, ICT Integration in Education, Educational Assessment, and Research Skills are others.
