TSC to Implement Six Teachers’ Demands As Unions Insist on Strike
The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) announced on Wednesday that it had addressed several key issues raised by teachers in their communication to the commission.
TSC disclosed that an agreement was reached with both the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) concerning the second phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
As part of the resolution, TSC committed to reviewing the career progression guidelines and asked teachers for patience while the process continues.
The Commission also resolved that teachers under the Teachers Medical Scheme would now have access to both public and private hospitals.
Additionally, TSC announced the government’s decision to allocate sufficient resources to retrain teachers for the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Teacher Promotions
In its report, TSC revealed that approximately 51,232 teachers had already been promoted through competitive promotions, with an additional 20,000 teachers to be promoted annually through the common cadre.

The teachers’ unions acknowledged TSC’s stance and agreed to consult their internal bodies regarding the withdrawal of the strike notice.
TSC expressed gratitude to the unions for their efforts in preventing disruptions during the third term of the 2024 school year. The Commission also thanked the government for providing adequate resources for the CBA and other teacher programs, even in the challenging economic climate.
Despite these developments, both KNUT and KUPPET rejected the government’s proposals and confirmed their intent to continue with the strike.
