30,000 TSC Promotions Targets Teachers in 7-Year Stagnation
More than 30,000 teachers who had been stagnant for more than seven years will receive promotions thanks to an agreement between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet).
This came to light after Kuppet and the commission met for six days at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha.
Interestingly, the Kuppet National Executive Committee’s media conference featured a strange absence of prominent TSC officials.
The Kuppet National Chairman, Milemba Omboko, announced that 30,000 of the 50,000 teachers who had been stagnant for years would receive promotions in the upcoming fiscal year.
Omboko emphasized that the Naivasha meeting decided to address the issue starting in June because the majority of teachers had not received promotions since 2017.
According to Misori, the union was pleased with the recent promotion of over 50,000 teachers after an audit revealed that only 14 cases had difficulties.
Omboko further stated that the Commission had addressed their concerns regarding the promotion of teachers not on the payroll and had elucidated the solution for 14 teachers who received the promotion despite not being on the payroll.
“The Commission will seek an allocation of Sh1 billion for the promotion of 30,000 teachers who have stagnated for years,” he told reporters.
