Garissa County to Hire 200 ECDE teachers
Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) by increasing investment in infrastructure, personnel, and resources for play and learning. He emphasized that these efforts are designed to help learners reach their full potential.
During a two-day training program for ECDE teachers at Garissa Primary School, Jama outlined his administration’s commitment to delivering holistic, coordinated, and integrated ECDE services.
He highlighted the importance of quality learning materials in achieving good educational outcomes. To this end, his administration continues to allocate significant funds to improve the sector.
Governor Jama announced that his administration has developed a county ECDE policy aimed at contributing to the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education.

He expressed a commitment to ensuring that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood care and pre-primary education, preparing them adequately for primary education.
Teacher Motivation and Support
Jama acknowledged the crucial role that ECDE teachers play in nurturing young learners. He expressed appreciation for their efforts and pledged ongoing support to boost their morale.
His administration plans to absorb all ECDE teachers permanently and ensure that necessary learning materials are available before the new term begins.
“We appreciate the work ECDE teachers are doing to shape young minds, and we will continue giving you the support you need,” he said.
Reiterating his commitment to the sector, the governor promised to hire 200 additional ECDE teachers to address existing shortages.

He also vowed to provide biannual training for the teachers and host an end-of-year gala to honor the best-performing schools and teachers.
Chief Officer of ECDE, Abdi Ali, announced that the shortlisting process for the 200 new teachers will be completed within two weeks. He urged all stakeholders to support the county’s initiatives in strengthening ECDE.
