Kenya to Establish Exam Centre for Professional Certification of KMTC Graduates.
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is making significant strides to support Kenyan health practitioners seeking employment abroad.
The institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kelly Oluoch, announced the establishment of a new examination center in partnership with various stakeholders, marking the second such facility in Africa after South Africa’s.
This development aims to reduce the costs medical professionals incur when undertaking mandatory exams for international job opportunities.
As part of KMTC’s 2023-2027 strategic plan, the new examination center will facilitate access to job markets in countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where there is a high demand for KMTC-trained health personnel.

Dr. Oluoch emphasized that the new facility would enable health practitioners to sit for the necessary examinations locally, eliminating the need to travel to South Africa.
This initiative is considered a significant relief for practitioners aiming to pursue international opportunities.
Curriculum Development for International Markets
In response to increasing unemployment rates and to better prepare students for international roles, KMTC has revised its curriculum to include foreign language training.
The curriculum now features French, German, Arabic, and Amharic courses, which are intended to enhance the competitiveness of graduates seeking employment overseas.
Dr. Oluoch shared these updates during an awards ceremony in Kisumu, where he also highlighted that KMTC is strengthening its training programs to meet the global demand for competent health professionals.
Dr. Oluoch noted that KMTC’s graduates are highly sought after, both locally and internationally. He outlined the institution’s ambition to be recognized as a globally competitive training center for health professionals by addressing the current and future needs of the healthcare sector.
To support this goal, KMTC is investing in research, innovation, and consultancy services that align with the sector’s evolving demands.
Leveraging Technology for Training Expansion
The CEO also mentioned KMTC’s focus on utilizing technology to broaden training opportunities. The growing student population poses challenges in terms of physical resources; thus, the institution is capitalizing on digital platforms to increase access to its programs.
Dr. Oluoch explained that embracing the digital space would allow KMTC to overcome limitations in managing physical courses and provide more flexible learning options.
KMTC Board Chairman, Joseph Cheruiyot, expressed appreciation for the government’s support in funding these initiatives.
