KUPPET Calls Teachers to Submit Proposals for Upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has called on its members to submit proposals for the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
During the Siaya Branch Annual General Meeting held in Ramba, Assistant National Treasurer Ronald Tonui stressed the union’s commitment to pushing for better terms for teachers, especially in regard to salary increments.
According to Tonui, teachers’ salaries have stagnated for too long, and a substantial increase is necessary to account for inflation and restore teachers’ purchasing power.
Demanding a 100% Salary Increase
Tonui announced that KUPPET is planning to demand a 100% salary increase in the next CBA negotiations with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
He explained that this demand is aimed at addressing the financial struggles teachers face due to stagnant salaries and rising inflation.
The union believes that the current salaries do not reflect the rising cost of living, and teachers have been financially strained for too long.

According to Tonui, the proposed salary increment will help restore the purchasing power of teachers, which has significantly diminished over the years.
He emphasized that without a substantial salary adjustment, teachers will continue to face hardships. The 100% increase is seen as the minimum necessary to address these issues.
Financial Strain and Teacher Welfare
Tonui further highlighted the severe financial challenges that many teachers are experiencing, with some even resorting to suicide due to economic pressures.
He urged union members to actively participate in the proposal process for the new CBA, encouraging them to prioritize their financial welfare.
The push for better welfare and salary adjustments is a key focus for KUPPET as it prepares for upcoming negotiations.
The union remains determined to secure a deal that will significantly improve the quality of life for teachers across Kenya.
