KUPPET to Integrate JSS Teachers into Leadership Structure
The Kenya National Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has decided to integrate Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers into its organizational structure at various levels, from local branches to the national leadership.
This resolution was formalized following a meeting held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Kasarani Sports View in Nairobi, attended by 54 delegates of the National Governing Council (NGC).
During the gathering, KUPPET addressed several critical issues, including the ongoing debate over constitutional amendments.
The union plans to finalize these amendments and subsequently distribute a draft document to its branches for review.

Regarding the recent disciplinary actions against JSS intern teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which involved the issuance of show-cause letters to 7,357 teachers, KUPPET expressed its stance.
The union’s Secretary General addressed concerns during a press briefing at the meeting, emphasizing the need for resolution.
Another significant decision made at the event was the reinstatement of the Branch Benevolent Fund (BBF), which had ceased following TSC’s discontinuation of deductions from KUPPET members.
This decision originated from the union’s Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) on April 3, 2021.
Despite initial challenges, including the temporary denial of entry to five union executive secretaries due to a court petition, the event proceeded smoothly after their eventual admission.
