Ministry of Education Releases 2025 Academic Calendar for Schools and Teacher Training Colleges.
The Ministry of Education has issued the official 2025 academic calendar for basic education institutions across the country, covering pre-primary, primary, and junior schools under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The announcement, made through a circular from the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Basic Education, provides a comprehensive breakdown of the school term dates, holiday periods, and assessment timelines for the upcoming academic year.
Primary and Secondary Schools
Primary schools are scheduled to begin their first term on January 6 and conclude on April 4, 2025.
The second term is set to commence on April 28 and end on August 1, while the third term will start on August 25 and finish on October 24, 2025.
Similarly, secondary schools will start their first term on January 6, ending on April 4. Their half-term break is scheduled from February 26 to March 25.

The second term will follow from April 28 to August 1, with a half-term break from June 25 to June 29.
The third term, running from August 25 to October 24, will pave the way for Form 4 candidates to take their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams between November 3 and November 21.
Schools will then reopen on January 2, 2026.
Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)
The 2025 calendar for Diploma Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) is as follows:
- Term 1: January 6 – April 4, 2025, followed by a holiday from April 7 to May 2.
- Term 2: May 5 – August 1, 2025, with a break from August 4 to 29.
- Term 3: September 14 – November 14, 2025. The December holiday will start on November 17 and last until January 2, 2026.
