Parents Withdraw Students, Demands Headteacher’s Transfer Over Neglect and Farming at School.
Parents at Kianjogu Primary School in Laikipia County are seeking the immediate removal of the school’s headteacher, citing issues with poor management, safety risks, and declining educational performance.
They expressed frustration over what they perceive as the Ministry of Education’s inaction, despite their protests continuing for the past three weeks.
In an effort to address the ongoing concerns, some parents have resorted to withdrawing their children from the school and seeking alternative institutions.
A parent, Zelipha Wakini, alleged that the headteacher has neglected her professional duties, spending more time on personal farming activities near the school instead of fulfilling her responsibilities.
This negligence, Wakini claimed, has led to other teachers adopting a lax attitude towards their work.
Accusations of Poor Management and Verbal Abuse
The headteacher’s management style has come under fire, with parents accusing her of being dismissive and verbally abusive during school meetings.

They complained that she often disregards their suggestions, leaving them feeling sidelined in decisions that affect the school’s well-being.
The parents emphasized the need for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Education to address these issues.
Safety concerns have also been raised due to the deteriorating condition of the school’s infrastructure. Another parent, Robert Gitau, pointed out that classrooms have developed large cracks, creating a potential risk for accidents.
He criticized the headteacher for failing to address the poor state of the classrooms, which further underscores the need for proper management and maintenance.
Demand for New Management Committee
In addition to calling for the headteacher’s ouster, the parents are demanding the establishment of a management committee to oversee the school’s restructuring.
They believe that the absence of such a committee has significantly contributed to the school’s declining performance.
The parents argued that forming a new management body would help reverse the downward trend and restore the quality of education.
