Students Encouraged to Pursue Sports as a Path to Employment.
Students in higher education institutions nationwide are being encouraged to pursue sports not only as a career but also as a sustainable income-generating activity that could improve financial independence and self-reliance.
The initiative underscores sports as a pathway to financial stability, allowing students to balance academic goals with athletic pursuits.
Wycliffe Sirengo, Head of Sports at Zetech University, urged students to view the sports industry as a viable business opportunity with numerous avenues for professional and personal growth.
He highlighted that engaging in sports such as athletics and ball games benefits students physically and introduces them to potential revenue streams.
Addressing the audience during the university’s celebration of graduating students under its sports sponsorship program, Sirengo advocated for greater institutional support for student talent.

Zetech University has demonstrated this commitment by investing Ksh10 million in full scholarships for top athletes identified in sports tournaments nationwide. The sponsorships support students who showcase exceptional abilities, helping them balance academics with athletics.
Scholarship Beneficiaries and Institutional Initiatives
The scholarship initiative includes Zetech’s sports teams like the Zetech Sparks (basketball), Zetech Oaks (rugby), and Zetech Titans (football).
The program aims to boost students’ motivation by demonstrating the potential of sports as a reliable income source. Sirengo pointed out, however, that the funds remain limited despite the growing interest from numerous talented students.
To further support sports development, Sirengo noted that Zetech University is building modern sports facilities at its expansive Technology Park on the Mang’u campus in Kiambu County.
The facilities, which will serve both students and the community, aim to provide a professional training environment for athletes.
Among the scholarship recipients is rugby player Brian Kimiti, who has received various accolades for his performance and is optimistic about advancing in his professional sports career.
