Top Ministry Officials to Tour the Country to Asses Damage and Readiness for School Reopening
Top Ministry officials will begin touring the country to assess the extent of damage and readiness for school reopening.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will lead his officials to flood-affected areas.
CS Machogu issued a circular to Regional, County, and Sub-County Directors of Education on May 3, 2024, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the school community.
He requested that schools report the number of students who were unable to attend class due to transportation issues, the financial impact of weather conditions on their families, and the number of internally displaced students.
The CS also urged school boards of management (BoM), headteachers, and principals not to place students and teachers in life-threatening situations.

The weatherman predicts that the rain will stop in the next few days, so schools will reopen on Monday of next week.
President William Ruto, who made the news at the State House yesterday, said all schools would reopen on May 13.
The announcement comes only days after the head of state postponed the reopening indefinitely, citing meteorological forecasts that the flooding situation was likely to worsen due to the continuous rainfall.
He also mentioned a cyclone that was expected to bring torrential rain, strong winds, and huge and deadly waves to the Kenyan coast.
240 Killed
The weatherman has since stated that the cyclone threat has passed.
The terrible floods have killed over 240 people and damaged crops, buildings, and infrastructure.
To honor those affected by the floods, President Ruto declared Friday a public holiday.
Ruto announced on Friday that he would launch a massive tree-planting campaign to preserve and repair the ecosystem and start to counteract the effects of climate change.
“On this day, we will plant trees and remind ourselves that the solution to climate change is taking care of our environment,” he stated.
